Ginni RomettyGinni Rometty, CEO of IBM Corp., has said big data, cloud and cognitive computing will drive changes in the retail and technology industries in 2014, the National Retail Federation reported Wednesday.

Jennifer Overstreet writes Rometty, addressing participants at the NRF’s BIG Show, believes those technology trends will change how retailers do business, from customer engagement to supply chain management.

Rometty told the event information is the next natural resource as 2.5 billion gigabytes of data are generated everyday, according to the report.

“Information will be your basis of competitive advantage,” she said.

Rometty added that retailers could also use cognitive technologies in order to form customer partnerships and reform the commerce industry, NRF reports.

Overstreet writes that Rometty asked retailers and the technology industry to focus on security, privacy, transparency, control and compliance.
