HARRIS1Harris Corp. has completed the simulated operation testing phase on the company’s satellite-based aircraft tracking system.

The Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast 1090 Extended Squitter receiver payload passed the duration and performance testing in harsh conditions to qualify for more than 12 years of usage, Harris said Monday.

Bill Gattle, vice president and general manager of national programs at Harris Government Communications Systems, said the company will proceed to the production phase following the tests.

Harris will develop 81 of the ADS-B receiver payloads for Aireon LLC under a five-year contract.

The payloads will be installed in the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation, which is scheduled for launch in 2015.

The system is built based on Harris’ AppStar payload platform.
