UnisysUnisys Corp. will apply its new facial recognition system to the passport application process in the UK.

Her Majesty’s Passport Office awarded a five-year contract for Unisys to automate passport applications and examine biometric data using its open standards LEIDA platform, the company said Thursday.

Nick Fraser, managing director of Unisys UK, said the company intends to help the country handle the pool of passport applicants through the agreement.

“Unisys has applied facial and other biometrics technologies to build leading-edge passport, citizen registry and land border control systems for the United States, Australia, Mexico and other countries around the world,” Fraser added.

Unisys will work to integrate systems and manage identity verification for the applicants.
