satellite airforceBall Aerospace & Technologies expects to deliver a commercial Earth-observing satellite at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in June, approximately two months ahead of the spacecraft’s scheduled launch in August.

The company said Tuesday that it is close to completing post-environmental baseline tests and ground segment assessments on DigitalGlobe‘s WorldView-3 remote sensory spacecraft .

WorldView-3’s initial launch window has been scheduled for Aug. 13 and 14 and the satellite will lift off on an Atlas V rocket from the Vandenberg launch complex.

The DigitalGlobe platform is built to deliver high resolution imagery and geospatial data for researchers to examine global environmental changes.

Ball Aerospace says the satellite will carry its CAVIS atmospheric monitoring instrument and is designed to orbit at an altitude of up to 383 miles.
