General Electric Aviation has introduced new computing platforms for military and commercial aviation customers, the company said Tuesday.
The platforms are designed with an open system, which means customers can ostensibly plug-in a number of different aviation computing applications on the same platform.
“In new aircraft development programs, we’ve seen over time that the cost to develop software has become increasingly prohibitive,†said Alan Caslavka, president of avionics & digital systems for GE Aviation.
“We needed to find a way to reduce development time and cost for our customers,” he added.
The platforms are meant to be compatible with applications that include vehicle management, mission payload and sensor management, utility management, navigation and guidance, communication management and aerial refueling.
