inmarsat-logoInmarsat has offered to provide a free global airline tracking service for all commercial passenger aircraft in a proposal to the International Civil Aviation Organization ahead of an aircraft tracking conference in Montreal scheduled for Monday.

“We welcome and strongly support ICAO’s decision to place the delivery of next-generation aviation safety services at the heart of the industry’s agenda at its meeting on 12th May,” Rupert Pearce, Inmarsat CEO, said Monday.

In the aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 incident, Inmarsat also has proposed a “black box in the cloud” service and a position reporting facility for data and voice information streaming and reduced in-flight aircraft separation.

The company designed the new systems to be readily implemented in aircraft that already have Inmarsat-built satellite connection equipment.
