Parsons and the New York Southern Tier Communities of Broome, Tioga and Sidney have received the Best Regional Collaboration award in the NY Rising to the Top Competition for their post-disaster reconstruction and rebuilding plans.

The team’s plans included a Regional Resiliency Summit to gather sector and stakeholder feedback and a Regional River Initiative to discuss issues and opportunities in watershed resiliency, Parsons said Thursday.

The Parsons team is one of eight NY Rising awardees that will receive $3 million in extra funding for community plans.

“Our plans lay out a reliable strategy for reconstruction and rebuilding of these areas in case of extreme weather events, including prevention for future flooding with watershed modeling, stream management, and education,” said Todd Wager, a Parsons group president.

The $25 million competition was established by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to support the NY Rising Community Reconstruction Program for communities affected by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Approximately 50 reconstruction plans have been formed across the state to prepare communities for future extreme weather conditions since the program was established in April 2013.
