RobStrain_GovConWire (1)Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has transported a remote sensing spacecraft to a launch facility in California for DigitalGlobe’s earth observations and geospatial data business.

The new WorldView-3 satellite arrived at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, where it is scheduled for launch on board a United Launch Alliance-built rocket in August, Ball Aerospace said Friday.

“Our new CAVIS sensing instrument will provide atmospheric correction data that will increase the volume of usable imagery captured by the primary imaging sensor,” said Rob Strain, Ball Aerospace president.

The WorldView-3 multi-payload satellite is developed to gather imagery with a resolution of 31-centimeter using the Exelis-built 1.1-meter aperture telescope and the visible/SWIR sensor.

WorldView-3 is built based on the Ball Configurable Platform 5000 platform for optical and synthetic aperture radar remote sensing payloads.

Ball Aerospace incorporated its CAVIS (clouds, aerosol, water vapor, ice and snow) atmospheric instrument into the spacecraft for atmospheric observation and data correction functions.
