northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman and the Missile Defense Agency have collaborated to facilitate multiple wargame sessions designed to help warfighters counter ballistic missile theats.

The wargame took place during the annual Ronald Reagan Missile Defense Forum held recently at Fort Belvoir, Va. and simulated a future battlefield scenario using a BMD architecture, Northrop said Monday.

“Wargames look at ‘the art of the possible’ for countering future threats and they are crucial for developing solutions comprising technical and tactical adjustments,” said Dan Verwiel, vice president of air and missile defense systems for Northrop’s information systems business.

“Through hands-on operations and close observations, forum participants gained appreciation for how promptly they must react, coordinate and make decisions when facing the complex environment and short timelines typical of the ballistic missile challenge,” Verwiel added.

Northrop built the wargame technology for the MDA under the agency’s Joint National Integration Center Research and Development program.

The company leads an industry team that works to develop BMDS models, simulators, flight tests and wargames as well as provide analysis and operations support through the JRDC contract.
