doctorVerizon has released their virtual platform, Verizon Virtual Visits, that will aim to expand access to medical care for patients through smartphones, tablets and computers.

Verizon Virtual Visits’ goal is to provide an enterprise-class platform for health systems that will allow for patients to be seen by a physician remotely for a cold, flu, sore throat or other acute, more common condition, Verizon said Wednesday.

According to Verizon, the system’s goal is to help reduce visits to the emergency room for non-urgent care, estimated to cost $4.4 billion this year alone, by assisting doctors and other professionals in the medical field meet the needs of their specific patients using Verizon Virtual Visits, which also has the potential to cater to patients who may not have convenient access to a clinician.

Verizon Enterprise Solutions strives to move society forward using industry-specific and wholesale offerings provided over the company’s mobility, cloud, strategic networking and advanced communications platforms, Verizon said.
