DeltekStrategic sourcing is changing the federal acquisitions process as government agencies turn to such practices amid declining budgets, according to Kyra Fussell, a senior research analyst at Deltek.

Fussell wrote Sunday in The Washington Post that Deltek sees a $7 billion decline in the government IT market from 2014 to 2019 with agencies adopting strategic sourcing initiatives to drive efficiency and savings in their contracting activity.

Fussell also noted that while the firm projects decreased spending in some technology areas, the benefit of cost efficiency is expected to facilitate ongoing investment.

Deltek also sees more agencies setting up vendor management offices to work on IT buying practices and leveraging analytics on contracting data to guide decision-making on acquisition, reports Fussell.

She recommends businesses to boost their market positioning as strategic sourcing becomes more widespread across government.
