Global-XpressAirbus Defense and Space will offer its channel partners and customers in the U.S. government and military sectors access to Inmarsat‘s Global Xpress broadband satellite service under a new reseller agreement between both companies.

The companies said Wednesday that the agreement will continue Airbus Defense and Space’ 25 years of work with federal agencies in the U.S. and covers commercial Ka-band subscription services.

A previous Global Xpress agreement between the companies concluded in December 2013, Airbus and Inmarsat said.

“Our customers will have access to a global network that is designed for interoperability with government Ka-band networks and its small terminals can support a comprehensive range of bandwidth-intensive mobile applications including airborne intelligence, live full-motion video, special operations and theatre backhaul,” said Ed Spitler, president of Airbus Defense and Space’s government satellite communications unit in the U.S.

Inmarsat built Global Xpress to function as the world’s first globally available high-speed broadband service, which will be delivered via a three-satellite Ka-band network.

The first Global Xpress satellite launched in December 2013 and achieved commercial service introduction July 1 for U.S. government agencies.

“We welcome this further extension of our enduring partnership with Inmarsat to bring the benefits of Global Xpress to our US government and military customer base through AuroraGlobal, our suite of new high throughput satellite communication services,” Spitler said.

The next two Global Xpress satellites are scheduled to enter commercial service introduction in 2015.
