An SCRA-managed naval center of excellence has partnered with General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls Industries to explore new technologies to help improve manufacturing processes at U.S. shipyards.

The Center for Naval Shipbuilding Technology in South Carolina and General Dynamics’s Electric Boat subsidiary are studying the potential of new measurement tools to aid submarine construction, SCRA said Thursday.

CNST and HII’s shipbuilding arm will collaborate on two projects aimed at leveraging electronic data systems in complex vessel production, according to SCRA.

The alliance will develop automated systems to track shipbuilding materials throughout the logistics process as well as to manage schedules and work areas in the shipyard.

The U.S. Navy sponsors CNST and eight others centers of excellence that are designed to research and build naval technologies.
