general-dynamics-logo2General Dynamics’ land systems business unit has been awarded a $7 million contract extension to assess approaches to building an amphibious combat vehicle for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The company will work to analyze requirements, concept refinement and experimentation planning for the Marine Corps to gain insights into the pros and cons of developing the ship, General Dynamics said Friday.

General Dynamics Information Technology and General Dynamics Land Systems will perform the work at its Sterling Heights, Michigan-based facility for five months.

General Dynamics Land Systems tested its hull design with the Marine Corps’ mine blast amphibious vehicle requirements in 2012 and 2013.
