BoeingLogo1 EbizBoeing plans to bolster its footprint in the South African market by investing in areas such as flight training, aircraft parts manufacturing and biofuel production, defenceWeb reported Wednesday.

“We want to further our presence in South Africa in a variety of ways: manufacturing, pilot training, defense, commercial,” said Miguel Santos, vice president for Boeing’s African business, according to defenceWeb.

Guy Martin writes the company will participate in the 2014 Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition to showcase its offerings for both commercial and military customers.

Boeing partnered with South Africa-based 43 Air School to train pilots in the region and collaborated with the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to explore industrial applications of titanium powder, according to defenceWeb.

Martin reports that Boeing and South African Airways have forged an alliance to establish a supply chain for sustainable aviation fuel.

The U.S. aerospace firm also intends to expand its partnership with Denel Aerostructures, which previously manufactured components for the 737 aircraft, according to Martin’s article.
