Network administrators need to bolster the IT infrastructure to support the uninterrupted delivery of services as government services move to online platforms, according to Sonya Cork, vice president for public sector markets at Verizon Enterprise Solutions.
Cork wrote Thursday that administrators should focus on building scalable and redundant networks, fostering network diversity and fixing single-points-of-failure, working with trusted providers that deliver reliable services and establishing a plan for continuity of operations.
She noted that setting up such measures could ensure that online public services and government websites and applications continue to operate and support public needs through disasters, network issues and other disruptive events.
“[Government] organizations must recognize that things don’t always go according to plan and make sure their IT systems and networks are built to withstand unexpected issues without negatively impacting service to end users,” Cork said.
