Cubic said Thursday that the Cubic (ITMS) subsidiary will maintain “intelligent” traffic signals and manage traffic control systems beginning Oct. 1 under the six-year, $85 million contract.

TfL and London officials aim to boost investment in the city’s road networks.

“This contract has a larger scope than previous awards as we will have to source and deliver all required equipment and works associated with the project,” said John Pickworth, CTS sales director for the U.K.

“We have a responsibility to London and will need to maintain availability of 99.1 percent of traffic signals each period.”

Cubic also holds a potential $1 billion contract with TfL to implement its contactless ticketing and fare collection system in London beginning August 2015.

The new contract also includes countdown timers and alerts at pedestrian crossings, LED traffic lights and technology that uses traffic level data to time traffic signal changes, Cubic said.
