budget stock photoJohn Slye, an advisory research analyst at Deltek, projects USAID and the State Department to respectively spend 38 percent and 35 percent of their IT contracting budgets in September as the fiscal year closes.

Slye writes Thursday that the above two agencies lead the 25 federal organizations that are likely to spend a total of $17.3 billion on IT products and services in September.

He says that yearly federal IT spending has tended to be concentrated in September based on historical figures as agencies face expiring budgets until the start of the next fiscal year.

“[The] historical spending data averaged over the last five years still supports the trend that these agencies will spend at or near these levels, as it reflects some of the spending impacts of recent trends like shifting and tightening budgets, program delays, and sequestration,” Slye writes.
