SAS logoSAS has partnered with not-for-profit hospital operator Dignity Health in an effort to bring down hospital readmissions and provide customized patient care using big data and predictive analytics technology.

The project tasks the business analytics company to build a cloud platform that would provide healthcare givers and providers actionable insights based on clinical, social and behavioral analytics data, SAS said Tuesday.

The SAS platform will target the specific areas of reimbursements, care planning, and metrics.

Graham Hughes, MD, SAS chief medical officer, sees the partnership as establishing analytics as a key element in improving patient care delivery and controlling costs.

Deanna Wise, chief information officer at Dignity Health, added that connecting and sharing the data of its 9,000 affiliated providers in 39 hospitals, clinics and health centers is a requirement to determine the right care for each patient “at the right place, cost and time.”
