IBMlogo3 EbizIBM innovation and client centers will now have access to Power Systems Linux and software developers will have access to tools for developing new applications for big data and cloud computing with open source technology.

Linux on Power already has more than 1,500 applications from independent software vendors available via services out of IBM’s Power Systems Linux Centers in Europe, Asia and the U.S., IBM said Friday.

Doug Balog, general manager of IBM Power Systems, said the services are intended to provide the platform businesses would need to maximize big data and cloud computing.

“They want new technologies that can achieve this faster and more cost-effectively than the racks upon racks of commodity servers heating up their data centers today,” he added.

The company seeks to increase by tenfold the number of customers that will have access to application development resources by providing the services to IBM Innovation Centers and IBM Client Centers

The services include training workshops on migration and optimization, hands-on support from POWER8 specialists on virtualization and parallel processing techniques, and business consultations and market strategy development.
