AirTrafficControlNASAThales has been chosen by U.K.-based air traffic management firm NATS to provide a technology for detecting potential conflict between aircraft in order to prevent collision.

NATS will deploy Thales’ TopSky–Safety Nets platform at two air traffic control facilities located in Swanwick, England and in Prestwick, Scotland, Thales said Friday.

The system is built to provide controllers early conflict warnings and aims to reduce the likelihood of nuisance alerts.

More than 40 air navigation companies have implemented the technology in their ATC centers, according to Thales.

Thales says it designed TopSky–Safety Nets to comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s aviation system block upgrades guidance.
