Cubic logoA Cubic Transportation Systems subsidiary has won a contract to build GPS-based equipment for displaying vehicle arrival information across the TransLink public transportation network in Queensland, Australia.

NextBus will provide its Real-Time Passenger Information Systems to 19 TransLink operators throughout southeast Queensland, Cubic said Wednesday.

Installation of NextBus RTPIS consoles is slated to be complete in early 2015.

“Public transport users will see more than 3,000 existing driver console units on their bus and ferry services replaced with the new, modern devices to enable real-time info over the coming months,” said Scott Emerson, minister of Queensland’s transport and main roads agency.

The NextBus system is comprised of tools designed to track the distance or time between buses, access historical travel data and monitor operators’ schedule adherence.

According to Cubic, the technology also works to help commuters access vehicle arrival information through mobile devices and LED/LCD signs installed at bus terminals.
