DigitalGlobeDigitalGlobe has unveiled several images that were captured by the firm’s new WorldView satellite with a 30-centimeter-resolution camera technology.

The company released WorldView-3 imagery samples to demonstrate how visual information from the commercial satellite can help urban planners, transportation agencies and insurance companies, DigitalGlobe said Thursday.

One satellite photo shows an airport in Madrid and is compared with a similar picture with a resolution of 70 centimeters.

According to DigitalGlobe, high-resolution images can help urban planners identify building footprints, trees that interfere with power lines, manhole locations, road surface markings and swimming pool areas.

The company also seeks to help transportation departments assess progress on highway projects as well as roadway safety problems through WorldView-3.

DigitalGlobe sought permission from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to share the satellite photos with the public.
