Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 can now be purchased by government customers through General Services Administration Schedules.

The company said the laptop-tablet, which is built to offer desktop-like power computing, “has met all GSA criteria” and been available under the procurement vehicle since Nov. 3.

Microsoft announced that it has also approved additional resellers in an effort to to make it easier for federal clients to acquire Surface tablets.

Phil Sorgen, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s worldwide partner group, said the move is part of the company’s plan to expand the Surface customer base.

“In the United States we are also adding VARs that meet the criteria required to resell Surface to the public sector,” Sorgen said in a recent post on the Worldwide Partner Conference blog.

“These new partners will meet specific government procurement requirements while also delivering a variety of value-added services to the Surface family such as asset tagging, custom imaging, kitting, onsite service and support, device recycling and data protection.”

Microsoft said a variety of government applications and accessories have been developed for the Surface Pro 3, including Accela’s Inspector app for permits, licenses and code enforcement professionals, and Democracy Live products for elections administrators.
