Chris Smith, vice president of technology for AT&T‘s government solutions business, has told Federal News Radio that five recently passed cybersecurity bills could help U.S. government agencies develop a unified approach to infrastructure security.
Smith told Francis Rose in an interview aired Tuesday that the Federal Information Security Modernization Act brings clarity about what roles federal agencies play in cyberspace operations.
He noted that a FISMA provision allows security incident reports to be shared among agencies in order to better protect their systems.
He added the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2014 aims to encourage collaboration between public and private sector organizations to develop new tools against computer threats.
Smith also believes cyber issues will not go away but said the new laws offer resources for the government to attract, train and retain top information technology professionals, according to the station.
