Big Data, AppsRaytheon and Weather Decision Technologies will collaborate to develop customized applications intended to help users analyze climate information and predict weather.

The partnership’s goal is to use a Raytheon-made environmental data analysis technology as the backend for WDT’s predictive weather decision support products, WDT said Nov. 20.

Raytheon updated the software for U.S. government customers to process climate data.

Bill Sullivan, director for Earth and space observing solutions at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business, said the companies seek to jointly offer weather data processing tools to commercial and international organizations.

WDT has used open source code from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System initiative to develop predictive weather products.

Raytheon supports the AWIPS infrastructure in partnership with the National Weather Service.
