SRA International Chairman Ernst Volgenau has recounted his experience and concerns during the time when the company would be taken private through an acquisition deal, the Washington Business Journal reported Wednesday.

“When we were a public company, we were having some problems,” Volgenau told WBJ reporter Jill Aitoro in an interview.

“I made many, many mistakes. And I wish that I had acted more promptly when we had begun to get into difficulty,” he added, according to the publication.

He said SRA had received bids from several large companies before it agreed to be acquired by Providence Equity Partners for almost $2 billion cash in 2011.

Aitoro writes that Volgenau detailed his 37-year journey to run the company as well as his insights into the government information technology market in the book “Geeks, Mush Heads and the IT Revolution.”
