A Northrop Grumman business unit will perform upgrades on the radar systems and Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems on at least 80 vessels of the Maersk Line shipping company.

Northrop said Monday its Sperry Marine business will provide its VisionMaster FT products, including the Navigat gyrocompass and Naviknot speed logs, as part of the upgrade.

“This contract extends the ongoing business relationship that we have with Maersk Line,” said Jeanne Usher, managing director of Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, noting that the upgrades work to build up situational awareness and navigation safety for the vessels.

Northrop will carry out the contract at locations in Asia and Europe through 2017, the company said.
