Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $72 million contract to produce a C4ISR technology for an eighth National Security Cutter that Huntington Ingalls Industries is building for the U.S. Coast Guard.
The C4ISR platform will be designed to help Midgett NSC’s crew track and engage targets as well as communicate with other Coast Guard maritime, air or ground systems.
Ed Segrest, program manager of communications and security technologies at Lockheed’s mission systems and training business, said the company intends for its technology to deliver operational awareness information to the maritime service.
The Coast Guard used a Lockheed-built C4ISR platform onboard the Waesche cutter during a 2014 patrol mission to capture a low-profile vehicle carrying illegal cargo.
Lockheed said it also manufactured the C4ISR systems on existing national security cutters.
