Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon has been awarded a $20,489,714 contract modification to continue the company’s development work for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s hypersonic missile project.

Raytheon will develop and demonstrate the tactical boost glide technology in Tucson, Arizona, the company said Wednesday.

Tom Bussing, vice president of advanced missile systems at Raytheon, said the program aims to address engineering challenges associated with rough environments where the missile system operates.

The company will design the re-entry vehicles to hit the target by passing over the inside of the Earth’s upper atmosphere in order to achieve the needed speeds.
