WASPBAE Systems has selected Drone Aviation Corp. to provide parts and services for the upgrade of two Winch Aerostat Small Platform systems of the U.S. Army‘s Space and Missile Defense Command Battle Lab.

DAC said Wednesday it will also work with L-3 Communications subsidiary L-3 Communication Systems-West to integrate the new WASP electro-optical and infrared imaging tactical surveillance system and L-3 CS-West communications package.

“[We] look forward to working closely with our customers and new partners to provide the military with a unique solution designed to meet today’s evolving mission requirements,” said Felicia Hess, CEO of DAC’s parent company Drone Aviation Holding Corp.

DAC noted that its subcontract with BAE targets a July delivery of the upgraded WASPs, which will be used for an upcoming month-long Defense Department exercise on WASP battlefield capabilities.

The wireless-enabled WASP is a tactical, mobile aerostat system that works to extend the range of communications in remote locations.
