alliance partnership connectIBM has partnered with The Weather Company and its division WSI to introduce an analytics-based platform intended to provide weather forecasts and help with responses of public sector agencies to natural disasters.

Under the strategic alliance, IBM will incorporate WSI’s algorithms and 15-day tropical forecast into its Intelligent Operations Center for Emergency Management in an effort to provide data to help local government agencies and emergency response units monitor storms and develop disaster response plans, IBM said Monday.

“Big data is revolutionizing emergency management and transforming how communities protect citizens and property in times of emergency – which can range from hurricanes and snowstorms to highway accidents and riots,” said Robert Griffin, general manager of Safer Planet at IBM.

Griffin noted that the IOC for Emergency Management will work to facilitate information sharing and utilize analytics “to provide insight for future incident planning and response.”
