satellite airforceO3b Networks in conjunction with lead integrator Oceus Networks and partner TrustComm, Inc. has demonstrated its satellite constellation for broadband connectivity during the Trident Warrior exercises of the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet.

The company said Monday, upon installing O3b tracking antennas that receive signals from its medium Earth-orbit satellites, the USS Fort Worth achieved approximately 600 Megabits per second in connectivity speeds.

“D” D’Ambrosio, EVP Government Solutions for O3b Networks, commented that they have been actively testing O3b with the Navy at SPAWAR’s SSC PACIFIC Common Optical Distribution Architecture (CODA) lab, but it’s great to see it deployed on a naval vessel and perform as advertised at sea.

O3b’s broadband satellite connection provided high-definition video streaming, telemedicine, Wi-Fi and 4G/long-term evolution services for the LCS-3 during the exercises, according to the company.

“The U.S. Navy, through Trident Warrior, was able to see first-hand how to achieve a high data rate with low latency and at an affordable cost in an operational environment,” said Randy Fuerst, president and CEO of Oceus Networks and an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015.

Bob Roe, CEO of TrustComm, Inc., added that “during Trident Warrior, the O3b service performed impressively, facilitating multiple bandwidth hungry operations simultaneously and exceeding expectations.”
