partnershipRaytheon has agreed to extend for another 10 years its partnership with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS to develop medium-range National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System.

The agreement, signed at the Paris Air Show, will work to incorporate new medium-range air-to-air missiles and sensors as part of efforts to improve optimal system functions for NASAMS clients worldwide, Raytheon said Monday.

Eirik Lie, executive vice president for Kongsberg Defence Systems, said the company has also worked with Raytheon on the development of naval and joint strike missiles in addition to NASAMS.

NASAMS works to help airborne warfighters detect and combat cruise missile threats using the AN/MPQ-64 F1 Sentinel defense radar, according to Raytheon.

The missile system is designed to work with Patriot and Hawk air and missile defense platforms.
