UVA said Friday Mitre will provide consulting services for UVA as the academic health center works to develop predictive analytics-based systems intended to detect risk of lung failure, hemorrhage and other conditions among patients and send alerts to medical personnel.

“Electronic medical records and bedside monitors contain information that could be better used to enhance care or even prevent an illness from occurring,” said Dr. Richard P. Shannon, executive vice president for health affairs at UVA.

Dr. Forrest Calland will act as the principal investigator of the study, which will feature an initial test on an experimental monitoring device in an intensive care unit.
