Scott Gaydos, chief technologist of Hewlett-Packard‘s U.S. public sector business, believes federal information technology leaders should explore the potential benefits of shadow IT in driving down costs.
Gaydos wrote in a Fedscoop guest piece published Friday that the government needs to adopt a centralized IT governance structure to mitigate risk in shadow IT while reaping its benefits.
He noted that shadow IT delivers on the need for innovation, flexibility, accessibility and cost effectiveness to support the government’s efforts to keep pace with a dynamic digital environment.
According to Gaydos, federal IT leaders need to take the role of facilitators or coaches and develop a roadmap for IT transformation and the implementation of a services-focused hybrid model for governance.
