Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1BAE Systems has received a $45 million contract modification from the U.S. Army to manufacture hard armor plates designed to protect the bodies of soldiers from bullets and other threats.

The contract is for the low-rate initial production of torso and side body protective vests and was awarded through the Army’s Soldier Protection System Vital Torso Protection initiative, BAE said Thursday.

The company will provide more than 90,000 Lightweight X Small Arms Protective Inserts, Lightweight X Side Ballistic Inserts and Lightweight Enhanced Side Ballistic Inserts under the modification.

BAE manufactures the tactical armor products at the company’s facility in Phoenix, Arizona.
