infraredFLIR Surveillance has received a 10-year, $49.9 million contract to supply an imaging infrared system to the U.S. Navy.

The Combatant Craft Forward Looking Infrared variant 2 imaging platform has image processing tools and optics that work to detect infrared radiation or light that emanates from surface targets during day and night, the Defense Department said Friday.

CCFLIR2 is an intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance tool special operations forces use on naval ships, according to DoD.

FLIR Surveillance will carry out work in North Billerica, Massachusetts, through September 2025.

The service branch will obligate $2,845,444 from fiscal 2014 and 2015 research, test, evaluation and development funds at the time of award.
