cyber hack network computerThe U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology has introduced a cybersecurity project that aims to identify methods to integrate commercial privacy protection technology and brokered identity management service offerings.

NIST said Thursday many organizations now allow customers to manage their online accounts through the use of third-party credentials and the agency believes the approach could drive user tracking activity.

The agency’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence is soliciting comments on its “Privacy-Enhanced Identity Brokers” draft document in an effort to address technical challenges associated with potential integration of privacy-enhancing tools into existing identity broker platforms.

NCCoE plans to use the public’s input to develop a new cybersecurity practice guide for multiple industry sectors.

Comments will be accepted until Dec. 18, the agency said.
