Vector HawkLockheed Martin will continue to develop a small unmanned aircraft system that works to adapt to various maritime operations under a $4.6 million contract.

The company has begun to build a Vector Hawk drone with fixed-wing, collapsible-wing and tilt-rotor configurations, Lockheed Martin said Tuesday.

Jay McConville, Lockheed Martin director of business development for unmanned solutions, said Vector Hawk’s canister deployment and launch functions work to support tactical maritime users.

Vector Hawk features fail-safe systems for safe return and auto-landing operations of the UAS.

Lockheed Martin designed the aircraft with an open architecture to allow for technology and payload integration.
