GPS-IIIHarris Corp. has developed a digital technology to offer it as potential payload for the U.S. Air Force‘s 11th and succeeding Global Positioning System III satellites.

The company said Monday its satellite navigational system offering is designed to have a modular architecture, atomic clock systems, radiation-resistant computers and a high-power transmitter.

The platform combines technologies from Harris and its subsidiary Exelis, which has built payloads for Lockheed Martin-built GPS III space vehicles.

Bill Gattle, president of Harris’ space and intelligence systems segment, noted the company invested in the digital navigation technology as part of efforts to help the Air Force manage GPS missions.

The offering also employs a company-built reconfigurable payload technology that is currently onboard the International Space Station and that has been integrated with hosted payloads for Iridium‘s NEXT satellite constellation.
