UAVThe U.S. Army is requesting information on small unmanned aircraft systems that individual soldiers can deploy and operate to gather actionable information in real time during battlefield missions.

In a FedBizOpps notice posted March 1, the military service urged companies, research laboratories and universities to submit responses to the branch’s Soldier Borne Sensors RFI by March 18.

The Army is looking for a three-pound system that comprises a UAS, a ground segment and a monitor for telemetry data and videos.

According to the notice, the air vehicle alone should weigh approximately 150 grams and employs imaging sensor technology that can function in daytime and nighttime conditions.

The Army’s office of the product manager for soldier maneuver sensors plans to hold a virtual forum on April 12 to provide additional information about the SBS initiative.
