CarahsoftEvan Slack, desktop virtualization director at Carahsoft, has called for information technology departments to automatically deploy security patches that correspond with access points such as mobile and connected devices.

Slack wrote in a blog post published Wednesday organizations should get serious about addressing security gaps amid the development of new devices and applications that access agency networks and the emergence of the Internet of Things.

“By automatically applying patches across agency networks, organizations are able to decrease the delivery time of critical security patches dramatically,” Slack said.

“[The] lack of full visualization of gaps has led to some of the most damaging of government breaches.”

Slack said IT teams face challenges in keeping pace with the number of patches and complying with deadlines to patch security gaps.

He cited Shavlik‘s Protect + Empower tool as a way to help organizations reduce man-hours needed to patch third-party applications.
