DataCenterQTS Realty Trust is establishing a mega data center in downtown Chicago as the company aims to help address a demand for colocation, managed hosting and cloud computing services in the Midwest.

QTS said Tuesday the 317,000-square-foot facility will be built to provide infrastructure as a service to government and other enterprise customers.

Construction on the first phase of the QTS Chicago data center project is scheduled to complete by mid-2016, the company noted.

The company added the facility will be situated on the former Chicago Sun-Times printing complex and will use fiber-based connectivity networks and data center cooling technology KyotoWheel.

QTS also plans to offer server virtualization, private cloud, backup, replication and managed storage and security services through its future Chicago hub.
