SAIC logoScience Applications International Corp. has given its first assault amphibious vehicle survivability upgrade to the U.S. Marine Corps‘ base in Quantico, Virginia.

The vehicle is the first of 10 AAV SU vehicles scheduled for tests by May, SAIC said Friday.

“We are honored to support the Marine Corps in this historic endeavor to upgrade vehicles that have not been significantly modernized in more than 30 years,” said Tom Watson, senior vice president and general manager of SAIC’s Navy and Marine Corps customer group.

SAIC redesigned older AAV-P7 models with survivability upgrades during the engineering and manufacturing development stages.

The Marine Corps’ program executive office for land systems will test the AAV upgrade.
