120509-N-KQ416-056The U.S. Navy expects the Raytheon-built Joint Standoff Weapon C-1 to achieve initial operational capability by the end of March 2016 after the weapon system completed an initial operational test in February, Scout Warrior reported Wednesday.

Kris Osborn writes JSOW C-1 is an air-to-ground weapon platform designed to be deployed from fighter jets such as F/A-18F Super Hornet to detect and neutralize mobile maritime targets.

The weapon system has a two-way datalink, imaging infrared seeker and a GPS-based inertial measurement guidance tool that work to track and destroy hostile targets during the flight’s final phase.

Ron Jenkins, director of precision standoff strike mission area at Raytheon, told Scout Warrior that JSOW C-1 and the current JSOW C variant also have a radiofrequency countermeasure system, anti-jamming platform and a tool designed to allow operators to alter the weapon’s trajectory based on the target’s disposition.
