Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1The U.K. navy used a BAE Systems PLC-built command-and-control platform to test-fire a torpedo onboard Artful, an Astute-class nuclear-powered submarine.

BAE’s submarines business designed and integrated the Common Combat System in partnership with Dell, VMware and Aish Technologies, BAE said Monday.

The submarine crew members used the system to process data from the vessel’s sensors, analyze sonar readings and help guide the Artful torpedo to neutralize moving targets, the company added.

BAE will work to integrate the platform with the Royal Navy’s Vanguard-class submarines.
