Symantec has appointed Brian Fletcher to serve as director for government affairs across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea and provide support on cybercrime issues and public-private partnerships, ARN reported Monday.

Julia Talevski writes Fletcher brings more than 20 years of experience from his work in the Australian government, most recently as director of cybersecurity relationships at the Australian Cyber Security Center’s Australian signals directorate.

“Fletcher’s role will focus on working hand-in-hand with key government agencies to develop innovative and practical ways to improve Australia’s cyber defense capabilities,” said Ian McAdam, Symantec Pacific region managing director.

“He will also be charged with providing recommendations for the government’s Cyber Security Review and mandatory data breach notification laws.”

Fletcher has also worked at the Australian embassy in the U.S., where he gave advisory support on cybersecurity and intelligence affairs to diplomatic and defense staff, the report said.
