world blue mapVolunteers from Lockheed Martin’s space systems business have developed an online portal that works to provide post-disaster information from the ground with the use of DigitalGlobe satellite imagery, Denver Business Journal reported Wednesday.

Greg Avery writes that the HelpNowMap.com website is currently in beta version and uses open source software code.

The service works with various computers and mobile device platforms and supports many languages, the report said.

Avery reports that DigitalGlobe’s satellite imagery provides the base layer for a map of distress situations around the world and displays the location of aid centers, food and water distribution sites, medical facilities and other resources.

Amazon Web Services hosts the software that is configured to load information to computers even with slow Internet connections, Denver Business Journal reports.

The service works to build on public needs identified by the World Economic Forum’s Global Council Agenda on Space, for which LMSS head Rick Ambrose served as chairman in 2015 and DigitalGlobe CEO Jeffrey Tarr is a member, Avery reports.
