TetraTechLogoTetra Tech has received $84 million in additional contract funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development to expand work on the Power Africa program.

President Barack Obama launched the Power Africa initiative in 2013 in an effort to provide electricity access to approximately 60 million households and companies in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 through generation of at least 30,000 megawatts of additional electricity capacity, Tetra Tech said Thursday.

“The Tetra Tech team is tracking a pipeline of more than 140 active energy transactions at various stages of development, representing more than 20,000 MW of potential generation capacity in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Dan Batrack, chairman and CEO of Tetra Tech.

The award would be in addition to the company’s existing Power Africa contract worth approximately $64 million.

The contract calls for Tetra Tech to design and build clean energy projects intended for rural areas, provide program support to the Power Africa coordinator’s office, as well as promote institutional and regulatory policies.
